Each week we bring you a short interview with our featured seller, this week is Julie from JAF Designs.
Business name: JAF Designs
Makers name: Julie Frazer
Describe your style in no more than 3 words. Contemporary, stylish, colourful
What do you sell in Fabrication? Sterling silver and gemstone jewellery, colourful hand painted aluminium jewellery, cufflinks
How long have you had your own business and what made you start it? I have had my business since Oct 2014 and I started it after a short break when I was made redundant as I wanted to “work” for myself on something I had a passion for.
What is your workshop / studio like? I have my studio set up in my cellar for silver ( it is very untidy but I know where everything is!) and my aluminium work usually takes over the kitchen table!
What are your beverage and snack of choice when working? Lots of coffee!
What do you find the biggest challenge of running a micro-business? My biggest challenge is finding the time to do everything, especially the paperwork as I like designing and making more!
If you could go back in time, what would you tell a younger you? I would tell my younger self to follow your dreams rather than get stuck in a rut, better to have tried and failed than not at all.
What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting out? My advice to someone who’s just starting out would be to try and set out a timetable and goals of what you want to achieve and by when but re-evaluate if it is not working. Look at ways you can achieve your goals.
Why did you join Fabrication, and how long ago? I joined Fabrication as I wanted to be a part of the Fabrication family and being located in Leeds is ideal, I joined in late November 2016.
If you could buy any 3 things from the shop, what would they be? If I could buy any 3 things from the shop they would be ELM Photography pub coasters, Dr Geof’s Goth Cat poster and a Gavin Edwards wall panel.
