Are you stuck for those last few gifts for Christmas? (Or maybe you don’t know where to start?) If that’s the case then we definitely have the answer! Our sellers have been hard at work creating their beautiful handmade items and while they’ve been flying off the shelves there is still time left to bag a gift or two (or few!) before Christmas arrives. There are items for a wide range of budgets and you truly can find something for everyone in the shop, as evidenced by the fact that some of our sellers have done all their Christmas shopping in store, so why notRead More →

Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the second annual Gingham Saturday is here again! Taking place this coming Saturday, 5th December, this event sees the majority of Fabrication’s sellers offering discounts on a wide range of items for one day only, so why not pop in and grab yourself a bargain? It also coincides neatly with Small Business Saturday, and what better way to support your local small businesses than buying your Christmas presents (or a treat for yourself) from a shop full of the work of Yorkshire micro-businesses?Read More →

Saturday saw not just the celebration of our third birthday but also the launch of our new loyalty card scheme. If you were in the shop over the weekend hopefully you’ll already have one of these cards in your wallet, if you don’t then all you need to do is pop in to the shop and make a purchase over the value of £10 – this will get you your card and your first stamp.  Stamps are available for every purchase of £10 or over, and the reward for filling your card is a (free) fab Fabrication tote bag – handy not just for futureRead More →

What a difference 3 years makes! Today marks Fabrication’s third birthday, the perfect time to look back at how far we’ve come. In the beginning it was just a shell of a shop, with marks on the wall left from the previous occupants: But it took shape, and in October 2012 we were proud to open our doors to the public with 40 sellers: 180 sellers have joined us since then. Our shop in The Light is brimming with beautiful handmade goods from our 83 sellers, some of whom are still with us from that first day: In celebration of our shop going from strengthRead More →

Originally from Ireland, I am a Leeds based ceramic artist and woodworker. All my products are individually designed and the glazes are my unique recipes, representing Yorkshire and the coastline of County Antrim. I also produce various interior items made from reclaimed and other sustainably sourced wood. These include serving boards, log carriers, and other furniture. Yarn Bowls: The Yarn Bowl allows the wool to be dispensed in a controlled manner so preventing it from rolling around and becoming entangled. It allows the knitter to observe the quality and beauty of the wool as it unravels. The solid body of the Yarn Bowl complements theRead More →

Shelley Lodge graduated from Huddersfield University in 2012 with a first class honours degree in Art and Design.  During her degree she specialised in enamelling and now makes a wide range of contemporary enamelled items including, jewellery (pendants, cuffs, earrings, bracelets, brooches) as well as wall art, miniature abstract landscapes, accessories and decorations.  The enamelling process involves fusing glass to copper in a kiln at around 900 degrees; due to the nature of this process, all items are unique, as well as 100% handcrafted. Although the art of enamelling is thousands of years old, Shelley aims to be innovative in her approach to enamelling, creatingRead More →

Art Matters is the new social enterprise run through People Matters, and funded by Leeds City Council. It consists of two groups of eight artists, who meet on a weekly basis to learn new techniques, develop business skills, express their personal style and ideas, and be part of a thriving creative environment. We had an event in October to launch our new enterprise, which was a part of the Love Arts 2012 festival. We also exhibited our artwork in the Light shopping centre for the festival, which gave us the opportunity to network with likeminded individuals and groups. Since October 2012, Art Matters have beenRead More →

Hi, we are Pauline and Chris, two friends who both enjoy beading. We both have different styles and tastes, which we have found complement each other. We also both believe that a girl can never have too many beads. As each bead is hand stitched, making the jewellery take time to evolve, we made a decision to use top quality Japanese beads, Swarovski crystals and pearls, together with semi precious stones wherever possible. Where fastenings are used, they are made from sterling silver or filled gold. Our jewellery is intended to be affordable, as well as something special to wear, that is hand made andRead More →
