Beginners Candle Making Workshop in York city centre
11am - 1pm on Sun 17th March 2024, 11am - 1pm on Sunday 7th April, 11am - 1pm on Sun 12th May, 11am - 1pm on Sun 2nd June, 11am - 1pm on 30th June £40 per person, max 4 people per class. Ideal for anyone new to candle making. You can enjoy learning how to make your own soy wax candles and tealights. Working at a relaxed pace and choosing from various aromas you will make 2 x tin container candles and a set of 6 tealights. These are yours to keep (once they've cured). Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention, all materials, equipment and tuition are included in the price. On the day all you need to do is turn up and enjoy. Your tutor is Wendy, owner of York based business PQ Soy Wax Candles. Wendy has over 10 years experience of making candles and wax melts. After the workshop, Wendy will manage the curing and CLP labelling and your candles will be ready to collect from Fabrication York 2 weeks after the workshop. All the products you'll make are suitable for Vegans. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult (over 18). The workshops last around 2 hours with complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits. Please advise of allergen requirements at least 48 hours prior to the workshop. Beginners Lino Print Making

Saturday 16th March 10 - 1pm Learn the basics of lino printing: from carving to inking to printing a lino block (A6 size) with Rachel Holborow of RK Wanderings printmaking - an experienced teacher, member of York Printmakers and York Open Studios artist. In this three hour workshop you will begin by learning about the tools and materials of lino printmaking; design your own lino block (please bring an idea (A6 drawing) of what you might like to print) and then carve it; then experiment with printing it. We will use Caligo safewash inks, which are vegetable oil based, non toxic and easy to clean up. There will be a maximum of 5 participants and you must be over 18 to take part. Be aware, you will use sharp tools at your own risk! (Safety tips will be covered at the beginning of the workshop and must be adhered to.) All materials for the workshop are included in the price, and you can take home the lino block you carve and - two weeks later (once they are dry) - your prints. Your prints can be picked up from Fabrication York, or posted to you for £3 P+P. Additionally there will be the opportunity to buy your own tools and materials on the day if you wish to take them home to develop your skills. Total cost for this 3 hour workshop is £35 which includes workshop materials, use of equipment and tuition + tea and biscuits. Miniature Bookbinding – 7th April 2024

Suitable for beginners but some previous craft experience is helpful. Make your own miniature book. All the fun of bookbinding at a fraction of the size. This class will take your through the basics of making a miniature case binding, using book cloth and decorative paper. All materials will be provided but participants are very welcome to bring their own paper to incorporate into their bindings if suitable. Create your very own tiny tome. Tomes can have jump rings added if you would like to turn your tome into a book themed necklace or brooch. A short fun class aimed at beginners. Whether your tastes are more are more cottage core or dark academia, this class will take you through making a fabulous notebook for you to take home. Includes a wide variety of fabrics and papers to choose from (and you are welcome to bring and include your own if useable), as well as the opportunity to incorporate 3D elements such as jewellery into your book. This class will be held in Anachronalia’s city centre workshop Fabrication2 venue at Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT There are plenty of local eateries to take your lunch in, or you can bring a packed lunch and sit in the workshop itself. Maximum 8 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft or bookbinding experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided. A creative class looking at how to turn your fabric scraps into decorative book cloth. We'll spend the morning looking at possible fabrics, what to look out for when choosing your fabric, and different methods for lining them for covering. In the afternoon, we'll move on to covering some test boards with different types of fabric and finally covering a pre-prepared text block to create your own finished cloth covered book. All materials are provided but participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics to work with, if suitable.
