There is nothing better when the nights are drawing in, than reading ghost stories from a finely-bound book. Now you can make your own with this bookbinding and storytelling workshop at Fabrication Crafts.

Join us for a joint workshop with Anachronalia and Steve Mackenzie at Fabrication Studios to make your own hardback book and then fill it with your very own ghost stories.

The workshop begins by creating a hardback notebook with Anachronalia inspired by Victorian and Edwardian stationery. Suitable for complete beginners, all materials will be provided.

After a break for lunch, the second half of our workshop will be led by storytelling master Steve Mackenzie. Stories surround us everyday, but someday when the darkness is falling and the veil is thin our minds start to find bits of light coming through, glimpses of that shadow in the corner, now is the time to write.. GHOST STORIES… Steve Mackenzie will help you explore the ghost story/folk horror landscape to find the story that wants you to write it.

This workshop will be held on the first floor of Fabrication2 Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT, please note our main entrance door is on North Court round the corner.

The workshop can get cold in the autumn and winter months so do bring an extra layer just in case. There will be hot drinks available throughout.

Access: the workshop is on the first floor, accessed via a short flight of stairs to the ground floor, then a larger flight of stairs with handrail accessed via a fire door. Toilets and kitchen facilities are on the same floor as the workshop. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    Jewellery workshop with benches to rent in Leeds city centre We offer ad hoc & permanent use of our Jewellery benches There is a one off membership fee before your first use, and studio induction We are currently open for ad hoc Rent a Bench 10-8pm on a Monday-Friday, Evenings and Saturday by arrangement (unless there is a class booked in the facilities). To book more than 1hr at a time please increase the number in the basket.     Jewellery Bench Hire

    (£4 per hour) Use of shared tools, including hearth and blowtorch with gas, pickle, pillar drill, bench grinders. polishing motor and barrel tumbler. Small tools such as pliers, hammers, doming and swaging blocks and more are also available. We expect people to bring or use their own basic tools (saw, files, scribe/ruler etc), though these are available to hire for an additional single £5.00 charge.

    Day/Week/ Month Passes

    (£24.00, £60.00 and £90.00) This is the perfect option for you if you only have a small amount of work you would like to do. Come in and spend the day soldering and polishing and using our tools. While our studio is not necessarily open every day and evening, we’ll work together to find a day that suits you to come and work. Passes usually count as up to 8hrs of workshop time, between the hours of 10am and 8pm Mon to Fri. Weekends subject to availability.

    Monthly Membership (£60 per month)

    (2m by 1m space). The monthly membership is a very cost effective way of having access to a jewellery workshop. Along with the above you also get the following as a monthly membership: A personal locker and bench are provided. Keys to access the studio when it suits you A listing in our members area where you can share your work, website or social links We have a minimum 6 month contract with monthly terms after the initial period.

    Own Studio Membership (£120 to £150 month)

    (2m x 3m or 3m x 3m) Larger dedicated workspaces are available on a monthly basis and is yours to utilise as you wish. Classes may be run in our workshop, subject to suitable insurance and our shared workbenches are available for use. Along with the above you also get the following as a monthly membership: A personal locker and bench are provided. Keys to access the studio when it suits you A listing in our members area where you can share your work, website or social links We have a minimum 6 month contract with monthly terms after the initial period.

    Lost Wax Workshop (£40.00 plus materials per day)

    Lost wax casting facilities available to hire. Vulcanizer, wax injector, burnout kiln and vacuum casting table.

    9th Dec 2023: 13:00-16:00 £35 a head. Maximum 8 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft experience is helpful. Make your own miniature book. All the fun of bookbinding at half the size. This class will take your through the basics of making a miniature case binding, using book cloth and decorative paper. All materials will be provided but participants are very welcome to bring their own paper to incorporate into their bindings if suitable. Create your very own tiny tome. Tomes can have jump rings added. A short fun class aimed at both beginners. This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs (can potentially be moved into the shop area by request). Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.
