Make your own runic leather bookmark using historical bookbinding and early medieval leather-working techniques. Suitable for ages 7-70+ (younger children may be able to complete the tasks with help from their accompanying adult)

Cost: £3 per bookmark of £5 for two.

Get inducted into the bindery as an apprentice. Then choose from a variety of tools to impress your marks into undyed leather. Guidance in using the futhark phonetic runic alphabet and a few stock phrases will be available to use if desired. Try out the technique on a some scrap leather, then create your masterpiece. Participants will take away a leather bookmark.

All tools and materials provided.

Drop-in, no need to book, although if the space gets busy you may be required to wait. The activity takes on average 20 mins to do.

Access: The Fabrication shop has 3 steps up from the street and 2 further steps inside to access the rear of the shop. The class area is located at the rear of the shop floor.  Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via stairs only.

    Parent and Child Pottery Painting Sessions in Leeds city centre

Paint your choice of mug, plate, bowl, or tile with a design of your choosing using underglazes while you sit and chat with friends and family! These courses will be run by Becky Walker of BBRT and supported by Katy Davies from Ceramic Rabbit. Becky has been making for as long as she can remember and currently sells mosaics and children’s clothes and accessories at Fabrication on Briggate. She loves to create and even though she sells broken glass and ceramics- she loves to paint pottery. Becky has been teaching for over 10 years and is excited to facilitate pottery painting sessions at the fantastic Fabrication Crafts! Katy is a talented ceramicist, and her craft has been passed down in her family for generations. She inherited her kiln from her grandmother, who was also a ceramicist, and Katy is excellent at hand building figurines. She is the behind-the-scenes expert on ceramics and will be helping glaze and fire the pieces you paint. This class will be held in Fabrication Leeds at 83 Briggate, Leeds, LS1 6LH (1) Facebook Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street.     Beginners Lino Print Making

    Saturday 16th March 10 - 1pm Learn the basics of lino printing: from carving to inking to printing a lino block (A6 size) with Rachel Holborow of RK Wanderings printmaking - an experienced teacher, member of York Printmakers and York Open Studios artist. In this three hour workshop you will begin by learning about the tools and materials of lino printmaking; design your own lino block (please bring an idea (A6 drawing) of what you might like to print) and then carve it; then experiment with printing it. We will use Caligo safewash inks, which are vegetable oil based, non toxic and easy to clean up. There will be a maximum of 5 participants and you must be over 18 to take part. Be aware, you will use sharp tools at your own risk! (Safety tips will be covered at the beginning of the workshop and must be adhered to.) All materials for the workshop are included in the price, and you can take home the lino block you carve and - two weeks later (once they are dry) - your prints. Your prints can be picked up from Fabrication York, or posted to you for £3 P+P. Additionally there will be the opportunity to buy  your own tools and materials on the day if you wish to take them home to develop your skills. Total cost for this 3 hour workshop is £35 which includes workshop materials, use of equipment and tuition + tea and biscuits. Please let me know allergen requirements at least 48 hours prior to the workshop.   This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs (can potentially be moved into the shop area by request). Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors.
