  Fabrication are very pleased to announce that The Art Crowd will be exhibiting their work in our gallery space 14 Feasegate, York. Mon 11th - Sun 24th Aug.

  The Art Crowd are group of very different professional artists whose diverse work covers various subjects, mediums and techniques and the exhibition reflects their differences by having no theme and no subject, every style and medium. Just quality art.

  The Art Crowd formed five years ago to show off the talent in our small part of North Yorkshire. They had a gallery in Northallerton High Street until lock-down and since then, both individually and as a group, they have exhibited in a large number of galleries, at festivals and events across North Yorkshire, as well as running workshops and art courses at their headquarters at Dale House in Northallerton.

  Karina Wiles - A textile and mixed media artist.
  Gill Kirk - A multi-disciplinary artist, print, paint, textiles.
  Bill Oakey - A painter of people and places, and everything else.
  Clare Lindley - Pen-and-ink illustrator and discoverer of Thorney Burrow.
  Katy Longster - An artist who stitches Yorkshire working-class life into fabric.
  Gavin Wilson - A photographer who blends analogue & digital processes.

  Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs. Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via another set of stairs.

  Researching York’s High Streets

  Join Fabrication CEO Dawn to chat about the changing face of some of York's high streets over several centuries. Fabrication has mapped Coney Street, Feasegate & Stonegate during it's time in York. Starting with the buildings we have inhabited this has led to a wider, and still ongoing, research project of those streets and many hours deep diving into records, deeds and directories. We will have a number of those records and books on display as well as artwork inspired by our Feasegate project and a display of clothing and artifacts Our Coney Street Project has been funded by Heritage Lottery Fund Drop in pre booking not required Our Stonegate and Feasegate Projects have been Supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and funded by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority

  Get chance to chat to author Ben Robinson about his debut book 'Finding Charlotte'. A sweeping new historical biography about the life of his great-grandmother, Charlotte. He will be displaying the historical documents from a personal archive, which were used to build the book that takes place on these very streets of York. Ben will be available to answer any questions and talk about the process of how the book was created. Come along and find out more! Outside the event his novel is available to purchase in our Feasegate shop. There is also A Fabrication link to Ben's story as a relative was a french polisher at the Piano Factory, based at our Stonegate shop from the early 19th-early 20th Fabrication Crafts, 14 Feasegate, York, North Yorkshire, YO1 8SQ. The Fabrication shop on Feasegate is an artist run gift shop that hosts events and workshops throughout the year. The drop in talk will be in the events space to the left of the shop Opposite Cafe Massarella and the Anime Gallery. The talk is a free drop-in activity.

  Leeds Open Studios – Bind your own chap book Workshop

  Normally open by invite only, Fabrication Studios on Edward Street will be throwing open its doors which includes Anachronalia's bindery and Dr Geof's studio on the first floor. Set within a former carriage works the studios cover 3 floors and many heritage and contemporary craft disciplines. Come make your own chapbook. Chapbooks were a cheaply produced and affordable alternative to the expensive fully bound books in Europe when early printing took off in the 16th-Century, reaching full popularity in the 17th-18th Century. A fore-runner to Zines they often combined simple woodcuts and text printed onto a single sheet and folded into a portable easy to produce pamphlet. Anachronalia will be offering the opportunity to bind your own chapbook in the style of an 18th-century chapbook, using historical techniques and a variety of woodcut-style art stamps created in collaboration with artist Dr Geof. The workshop is a free drop-in activity and is suitable for ages 14+

  Access: The building is accessed on the ground floor via a short flight of 5 steps that turn as you enter. The bindery is on the first floor accessed via a narrow doorway and two flights of stairs. Loos are on the first floor on the same level as the bindery. The Studios are a workspace with machinery and tools and all children should be supervised at all times.
