Independent shop and creative workspace
Social Enterprise set up in 2008, with the aid of an Unltd Award, to support micro crafts and design businesses, with work and retail space in Leeds and York.
We opened our first shop in October 2011, with a popup on Kirkgate Leeds. Quickly moving to the Merrion Centre for 2012. In October 2012 we opened a pop up in The Light. This gave more makers a place to sell, we remained there until September 2018 and have now taken on a 10 year lease at 79 Albion Street Leeds.
We moved to York in 2018 to a small 16th century building and in June 2022 took on the old River Island shop directly opposite at 19 Coney Street.
Our sellers are our shop staff, due to our remit to stop social isolation amongst crafts people
In November 2015 a fire and subsequent demolition halted our workspace and classes. We have now moved into a much larger building. This has capacity for more makers and community groups to use our facilities. We have jewellers, artists, woodworkers, shoemakers, fashion designers, ceramicists and bookbinders amongst our tenants
Our online shop is available to access here, offering a click and collect option to our shops, or post direct from them. Click here
We also run craft classes inhouse and with community groups and corporate organisations running craft workshops, fashion events and much more. Alongside hen parties, hosting exhibitions and events, researching heritage projects and much more
Fabrication is run by long term makers, rather than business advisors so you can be sure of mutual support
