Sunday 9th Aug 2026 – Georgian Love Letter Workshop.
Classes, Classes York, Craft Classes, Craft Classes & Workshops, Exhibitions and Events in YorkGeorgian Love Letter Workshop and Afternoon Refreshments: £20 2 hour class 2pm-4pm Join Fabrication Crafts and heritage bookbinder Anachronalia for a gentle afternoon of refreshments and creativity. An afternoon inspired by the world of salons, gossip, and the ardent letter-writing of the day. Come rest your feet, enjoy a cup of tea or spiced hot chocolate (dairy or vegan), and learn how to make your very own puzzle purse love letter. The puzzle purse is an origami fold that took off as a way to send love notes. Sent by men and women to their friends and lovers, it included space for an enclosed memento, and its structure set down a playful challenge to the recipient: can they refold it? Decorated by hand, each layer of a puzzle purse could carry another message, slowly revealing what is hidden within. We’ll start the class by learning the fold, then relax with a drink and biscuits while decorating and writing our letters. All materials and tools will be provided including watercolours, gouache, pencils, and period-appropriate calligraphy ink. Period costume is not required but very welcome. There will also be an opportunity after the class to tour the upper story of the shop to see the echoes of the Georgian heart of 32 Stonegate, get an unusual glimpse of Mulberry Hall from higher up and visit the surviving panelled room - not usually open to the public – which will be dressed for the occasion. Refreshments: vegan options are included as standard. Please let us know in advance of any additional allergies or dietary requirements. This class will be held in Fabrication York at 32 Stonegate, York YO1 8AS Access: The Fabrication shop has 3 steps up from the street and 2 further steps inside to access the rear of the shop. The class area is located at the rear of the shop floor. Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via stairs only. The tour is also on the first floor.Add to basket -
