Fabrication runs a wide variety of craft classes in York, as weekend workshops and evening courses.
We have a number of adult education classes in York City Centre. Ranging from sewing & historical dressmaking courses, through to printing workshops.
Also bookbinding classes, candle making, illustration and felting. Learning with experienced tutors.
There are crafty hen parties and outreach learning as well
Classes for complete beginners, through to intermediate and more specialist skills.
Classes are held at our Coney Street shop on the 1st floor

10th June 2026 – Bookbinding Class: Making the Naughty List – a 16th-Century stationery binding
Bookbinding Classes, Classes York, Craft Classes, Exhibitions and Events, Exhibitions and Events in York, Heritage Craft Skills Workshops, Heritage Crafts WorkshopsWednesday 10th June 14:00-17:00 Max 10 participants, £40 a ticket (all tools and materials provided). Originally used as a list of priests who did not attend mass in the Vatican, come recreate this surprisingly modern looking late medieval/early modern binding based on a surviving example in the Vatican library. This class will take you through preparing your pages, sewing, lining your cover with decorative papers as well as creating an elaborately cut label for the cover. Leave the class with a period-appropriate 16th-Century binding, and skills to make many more. Suitable for complete beginners to bookbinding. Ages 16+ This class will be taught by Anachronalia. Based in Leeds, Anachronalia has been binding for over 15 years and teaching for over 10. With a background in medieval studies, she fuses historical techniques with modern materials to create her own range of books and stationery. This class will be held in Fabrication York at 32 Stonegate, York YO1 8AS Access: The Fabrication shop has 3 steps up from the street and 2 further steps inside to access the rear of the shop. You’ll learn the dos and don’ts of safety, technique and how to select materials, including the chance to practice different techniques on different woods. You’ll then get to put your new skills into practice by decorating an item of your choice to take home, followed by learning how to finish and care for your pyrography piece. Sabrina of FiftyEleven is a second-generation pyrography artist and heritage cabinet maker who has been creating fanciful and practical items in sustainable woods for 15 years. An interactive workshop on humour in poetry: Saturday 6 June 2026 - £25 2.00 pm—3.30 pm + informal discussion time Ideal for poets, stand-ups and spoken-word artists Using examples from poems across the ages, we will examine Comic verse forms Satire and irony Puns and punchlines ‘Slapstick’ By the end of the session, you will have completed a short original poem of your own. The taught workshop session lasts approx. 1 hour 30 minutes, with the opportunity for further discussion at the end. Beginners and more experienced writers are welcome. Feel free to bring along any work you might wish to share if time allows. Course leader Adrian Fayter is a published author with an MA in Creative Writing and substantial teaching experience.
