Sustainable Fashion Workshop – Embroidery

Has your favourite pair of jeans ripped? Do you want to learn how to patch up an item of clothing rather than buy new?s will teach you the embroidery skills needed. You just need to bring along your garment – patches, threads (refreshments?) and fun all supplied!

Thanks to a grant from First Buses Fabrication Crafts on Coney Street have been running a number of free workshops showing participants how to upcycle, repair and enhance their clothing.

Join us for a special York Fashion Week Event with Brenda from Felty and Fabulous

The class is free but places are limited so must be booked in advance to take part

Please note this event will beheld in our York Coney Street shop in the upstairs classroom space with no disabled access

    Bookbinding – 16th-Century Style Sketchbook – 8th Oct 2023

    8th Oct 2023: 13:00-16:00 £30 a head. Maximum 6 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided. Based on a 16th-Century book in the Vatican library, come make your own lay flat sketchbook, using only paper, card, needle, and thread. Along the way learn more about the types of books used by ordinary folk during the later medieval period for accounts, ledgers, and pocket notebooks. This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs (can potentially be moved into the shop area by request).     Christmas Origami Star Garland Workshop Sat 25th Nov 2023 10.30am - 12.30pm
    Join Laura from L & S Crafts (2) Facebook at Fabrication York in York city centre, for a fun papercraft workshop to make Christmas origami stars.
    During the session you will learn how to fold five-pointed stars from pretty, plain and patterned paper in a variety of sizes. These can then be strung together to make a Christmas garland, used to decorate presents and cards, or be made into decorations for your home. They also make lovely gifts for friends and family.
    All equipment and materials will be provided, including our specially designed kit containing all you need to make different sized star garlands.
    You will also receive a link to our origami star video tutorial to continue creating at home after the workshop.
    Hot drinks will be available.
    Minimum age for participants is 18 years

    Spooncarving - Knife Carving Workshop Sat 16th Sept 1.30 - 3.30pm Dave is an experienced woodcarver and has been running spooncarving sessions for the last 5yrs. The 2hr session is an introduction  to spooncarving and covers the knife skills required to safely carve your first spoon. You'll be guided through the process as Dave shows you how to use the straight and bent knife whilst carving a prepared blank.
