Classes ArchiveWednesday 10th June 14:00-17:00 Max 10 participants, £40 a ticket (all tools and materials provided). Originally used as a list of priests who did not attend mass in the Vatican, come recreate this surprisingly modern looking late medieval/early modern binding based on a surviving example in the Vatican library. This class will take you through preparing your pages, sewing, lining your cover with decorative papers as well as creating an elaborately cut label for the cover. Leave the class with a period-appropriate 16th-Century binding, and skills to make many more. Suitable for complete beginners to bookbinding. Ages 16+ This class will be taught by Anachronalia. Based in Leeds, Anachronalia has been binding for over 15 years and teaching for over 10. With a background in medieval studies, she fuses historical techniques with modern materials to create her own range of books and stationery. £45.00Pyrography Masterclass: £45 3 hour class 1pm-4pm - 7th of June 2026 An in-depth, beginner-friendly journey through the ins and outs of creating your own stunning pyrography art. You’ll learn the dos and don’ts of safety, technique and how to select materials, including the chance to practice different techniques on different woods. You’ll then get to put your new skills into practice by decorating an item of your choice to take home, followed by learning how to finish and care for your pyrography piece. Sabrina of FiftyEleven is a second-generation pyrography artist and heritage cabinet maker who has been creating fanciful and practical items in sustainable woods for 15 years. You can enjoy learning how to make your own soy wax candles and tealights. Working at a relaxed pace and choosing from various aromas you will make 2 x tin container candles and a set of 6 tealights. These are yours to keep (once they've cured). Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention, all materials, equipment and tuition are included in the price. On the day all you need to do is turn up and enjoy. Your tutor is Wendy, owner of York based business PQ Soy Wax Candles. Wendy has over 13 years experience of making candles and wax melts. After the workshop, Wendy will manage the curing and finishing of your candles which will be ready to collect from Fabrication York 1 week after the workshop. £40.00Jesmonite – Make a set of homewares Dates: Sun 8th Nov 2 - 4pm Sat 29th Nov 11 - 1pm During this 2-hour workshop you will be shown step by step, with demo’s, how to create a Jesmonite (non-toxic, eco-friendly, water-based resin) trinket tray, coaster and small pot using Terrazzo, Marbling & Block Colour techniques. You will have the chance to get creative with these techniques and various colours. At the end of the class, you will have made a pretty set of homewares and as jesmonite is quick to set you can take it straight home with you. £40 per person. All materials for each process are provided so just turn up and enjoy. No experience needed. You may wish to bring an apron if you want to keep your clothes clean, as it can sometimes be a messy process. Classes are limited to 6 people to allow support to be given where needed. £3.00Make your own runic leather bookmark using historical bookbinding and early medieval leather-working techniques. Suitable for ages 7-70+ (younger children may be able to complete the tasks with help from their accompanying adult) Cost: £3 per bookmark of £5 for two. Get inducted into the bindery as an apprentice. Then choose from a variety of tools to impress your marks into undyed leather. Guidance in using the futhark phonetic runic alphabet and a few stock phrases will be available to use if desired. Try out the technique on a some scrap leather, then create your masterpiece. Participants will take away a leather bookmark. All tools and materials provided. Drop-in, no need to book, although if the space gets busy you may be required to wait.
