Make your own Vintage Style Notebook – 20th July 2024

Suitable for beginners to bookbinding but some previous craft experience is helpful.
Make your own vintage style notebook inspired by stationery bindings of the late 19th/early 20th Century. This class will take your through the basics of sewing and gluing up a text block, creating the cover in a traditional 1/2 bound design (i.e. with spine and corners in book cloth and the cover in marbled paper) and casing in. At the end you will have your own blank notebook to take home.

This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL

Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs. Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    11am - 1pm on Sun 17th March 2024, 11am - 1pm on Sunday 7th April, 11am - 1pm on Sun 12th May, 11am - 1pm on Sun 2nd June, 11am - 1pm on 30th June £40 per person, max 4 people per class. Ideal for anyone new to candle making.  You can enjoy learning how to make your own soy wax candles and tealights.  Working at a relaxed pace and choosing from various aromas you will make 2 x tin container candles and a set of 6 tealights.  These are yours to keep (once they've cured). Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention, all materials, equipment and tuition are included in the price. On the day all you need to do is turn up and enjoy. Your tutor is Wendy, owner of York based business PQ Soy Wax Candles.  Wendy has over 10 years experience of making candles and wax melts. After the workshop, Wendy will manage the curing and CLP labelling and your candles will be ready to collect from Fabrication York 2 weeks after the workshop. All the products you'll make are suitable for Vegans. Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult (over 18).  The workshops last around 2 hours with complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits.  Please advise of allergen requirements at least 48 hours prior to the workshop.   • Drop in Sessions in The Bindery

    Friendly drop-in sessions aimed at binders or future binders of all skill levels. Take advantage of the space, tools* and reference library in Anachronalia’s bindery and learn at your own pace. Just pay for the sessions you attend. This is a self-led session but Linette will be present to supervise and on hand for advice or an extra pair of hands. There will be some materials available to participants/binders to practice with for free but participants should also look to source their own for more specialist projects or can purchase additional materials at cost from Anachronalia. Tea and coffee is available. *First time visitors to the bindery will be required to complete a brief workshop and H&S induction and training on relevant machinery. When: 13:00-19:00 Price: £10 a session NB: 24 hour advance booking or contact is preferred so that in the event of a session cancellation everyone can be kept informed.
