Suitable for beginners but some previous craft experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided.

Based on a 16th-Century book in the Vatican library, come make your own lay flat sketchbook, using only a folded card cover, drawing paper pages, and a deceptively simple looking sewing pattern. Along the way learn more about the types of books used by ordinary folk during the later medieval period for accounts, ledgers, and pocket notebooks.

This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL

Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs. Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

All pieces will then be turned into a community patchwork work by Hermione (off site).     Beginners Lino Print Making

    Saturday 16th March 10 - 1pm Learn the basics of lino printing: from carving to inking to printing a lino block (A6 size) with Rachel Holborow of RK Wanderings printmaking - an experienced teacher, member of York Printmakers and York Open Studios artist. In this three hour workshop you will begin by learning about the tools and materials of lino printmaking; design your own lino block (please bring an idea (A6 drawing) of what you might like to print) and then carve it; then experiment with printing it. We will use Caligo safewash inks, which are vegetable oil based, non toxic and easy to clean up. There will be a maximum of 5 participants and you must be over 18 to take part. Be aware, you will use sharp tools at your own risk! (Safety tips will be covered at the beginning of the workshop and must be adhered to.) All materials for the workshop are included in the price, and you can take home the lino block you carve and - two weeks later (once they are dry) - your prints. Your prints can be picked up from Fabrication York, or posted to you for £3 P+P. Additionally there will be the opportunity to buy  your own tools and materials on the day if you wish to take them home to develop your skills. Total cost for this 3 hour workshop is £35 which includes workshop materials, use of equipment and tuition + tea and biscuits.     Book paper rose Workshop Sun 3rd March 11.15 - 1.15pm
    Join Laura from L & S Crafts (2) Facebook at Fabrication York in York city centre, for a fun, informative workshop to learn how to make paper roses from your choice of book paper, sheet music or maps. The finished roses will then be mounted on wire stems and taped to give a neat finish.
    You will develop the skills to make further roses at home. Book paper flowers make lovely gifts, home decorations or even wedding bouquets. Perfect for weddings, first wedding anniversaries, or just to treat yourself!
    All equipment and materials will be provided, however if you have a favourite book or piece of music that you would like to incorporate, feel free to bring it along.
    Hot drinks will be available.
    Minimum age for participants is 18 years.
