Suitable for beginners but some previous craft experience is helpful.

Make your own miniature book. All the fun of bookbinding at half the size. This class will take your through the basics of making a miniature case binding, using book cloth and decorative paper. All materials will be provided but participants are very welcome to bring their own paper to incorporate into their bindings if suitable.

Create your very own tiny tome. Tomes can have jump rings added. A short fun class aimed at both beginners.

This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL

Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs (can potentially be moved into the shop area by request). Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    Rob Oldfield is a gilder, typographer and educator, with nearly forty years experience working in museums and historic interiors. He recognizes the importance of crafts like gilding and he has a desire to pass on his knowledge so that it does not become yet another ‘forgotten art’ in an increasingly digital world.     Join Laura from L & S Crafts (2) Facebook at Fabrication York in York city centre, for a fun papercraft workshop to make Christmas origami stars.
    During the session you will learn how to fold five-pointed stars from pretty, plain and patterned paper in a variety of sizes. These can then be strung together to make a Christmas garland, used to decorate presents and cards, or be made into decorations for your home. They also make lovely gifts for friends and family.
    All equipment and materials will be provided, including our specially designed kit containing all you need to make different sized star garlands.
    You will also receive a link to our origami star video tutorial to continue creating at home after the workshop.
    Hot drinks will be available.
    Minimum age for participants is 18 years

  • Drop in Sessions in The Bindery

    Friendly drop-in sessions aimed at binders or future binders of all skill levels. Take advantage of the space, tools* and reference library in Anachronalia’s bindery and learn at your own pace. Just pay for the sessions you attend. This is a self-led session but Linette will be present to supervise and on hand for advice or an extra pair of hands. There will be some materials available to participants/binders to practice with for free but participants should also look to source their own for more specialist projects or can purchase additional materials at cost from Anachronalia. Tea and coffee is available. *First time visitors to the bindery will be required to complete a brief workshop and H&S induction and training on relevant machinery. When: 13:00-19:00 Price: £10 a session NB: 24 hour advance booking or contact is preferred so that in the event of a session cancellation everyone can be kept informed.     Hosting his first Illustration based workshop here on the first floor of the York shop, Reid will share his comical characters and help you develop your own.
    Materials are provided...just bring your imagination and enjoy some arty fun!
    Reid.B is one of the resident artist sellers in Fabrication York and began selling his artwork and clay collectables here in June 2022.  Reid has exhibited many times in and around York venues over the last 15 years, showing an eclectic collection of Illustrative, expressive and unique creations of his original characters.
    Cost is £30 including all materials, equipment and tuition  along with refreshments.
