Based on a 16th-Century book in the Vatican library, come make your own lay flat sketchbook, using only paper, card, needle, and thread. Along the way learn more about the types of books used by ordinary folk during the later medieval period for accounts, ledgers, and pocket notebooks.

This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL

Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs (can potentially be moved into the shop area by request). Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    Make your own Vintage Style Notebook - 20th July 2024 13:00-16:30 £40 a head. Maximum 6 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners to bookbinding but some previous craft experience is helpful. Make your own vintage style notebook inspired by stationery bindings of the late 19th/early 20th Century. This class will take your through the basics of sewing and gluing up a text block, creating the cover in a traditional 1/2 bound design (i.e. with spine and corners in book cloth and the cover in marbled paper) and casing in. At the end you will have your own blank notebook to take home. This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street.     Slow Fashion – Darning and Embroidery Workshop

    Slow Fashion Darning and Embroidery Workshop join us for a special York Fashion Week Event Darning is an eco-friendly way to repair your clothes, helping them to avoid landfill and preserving a fabric you love. It is a low and therapeutic embroidery process that strengthens your clothes while adding a decorative element. You can either bring along something to mend or we can provide all the materials so that you can learn this hand embroidery technique. Thanks to a grant from First Buses Fabrication Crafts on Coney Street have been running a number of free workshops showing participants how to upcycle, repair and enhance their clothing. Saturday 29th April 11am to 1pm the workshop is free however prebooking is required to save a place This is held at our York Coney Street shop, on the 1st floor in our upstairs classroom space with no disabled access

Based on a 3rd-Century book found in Egypt, come make your own leather notebook using historically appropriate methods. Made of leather, lined in papyrus, and tied shut with multiple ties, this rustic notebook is modelled after the Nag Hammadi Codices. Along the way learn more about the methods used to make this book and how & why they were made the way they are. This class will be held in Fabrication York at 32 Stonegate YO1 8AS Access: The class room area is accessed via the Fabrication shop and is located on the ground floor towards the back of the shop space. The shop has two steps up from the street. Inside there are a further two steps from the front of the shop to the back of the shop. Toilets are on the first floor accessed by 2 flights of stairs. If you have any specific access queries relating to the course content, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.
